Enduring Understandings

A. He identified scapegoats (Communists, Jews, Minorities, Homosexuals, Foreigners). This leads to support and unity behind the leader, and ever-present action against whoever is identified.

B. Hitler believed in himself. In the 1920s, he believed he was preparing Germany for a future saviour. But he realised that he was the ‘Frederick the Great’ or ‘Bismarck’ to save the country.

C. He used terror and intimidation to deter opponents and ensure rivals did not attempt to replace him.

D. He developed his own cult of personality.

E. Hitler created a vision.
