Hitler persuades Hindenburg to pass the Reichstag Fire Decree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1933 <\/strong>March, the first concentration camp at Dachau opens. He repeated the same complaints:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Treaty of Versailles was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/browse\/carthaginian-peace\">Carthaginian Peace<\/a>. Germany must overturn this and restore the pre-1914 borders. <em>Interestingly, Winston Churchill<\/em>, <em>the prime minister of Britain from 1940 to 1945, argued that the USA, France and Britain had loaned twice what the Versailles reparations were by 1931, and had hardly paid them too!. But <strong>he needed elections to prove his support, destabilising the current government would help achieve this. <\/strong>In this, one could argue that he was successful, there were several between 1930 and 1932. He even opposed Br\u00fcning&#8217;s proposal that Hindenburg be given a second term in 1932 without going through the process of being elected. This forced yet another election, although one in which Hitler lost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"Economy-Great-Depression\"><strong>6. For example, in response to violence in Berlin in 1932, Chancellor von Papen put Prussia under the control of the central government. This went against the Weimar constitution. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The<strong> Nazis were underestimated by Bruning<\/strong>, he never thought large numbers of Germans would vote for them. However, their electioneering techniques were unique and their messages of a national renewal and change of political system struck a chord with millions of people. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>conservatives thought that they could control Hitler<\/strong> by insisting that the majority of his cabinet be made up of them.  But Hitler insisted that Wilhelm Frick was made Interior Minister, ensuring that law and order was under the Nazis. The Reichstag had the power to appeal, and did so, but was never able to command a majority to be successful. At each stage, the Socialists sided with Br\u00fcning as they did not want the nationalists gaining power.
