Message from the Head of School
By Jason McBride, Head of School
Hello IGBIS Community,
It was nice to welcome everyone back on Monday after the Lunar/Chinese New Year break, unfortunately – and as expected – we were faced with having to pivot to online learning in the secondary because of the rise in Covid cases across Malaysia and within our community. Because of the change in SOPs, one case on campus has a wide-reaching effect and so to combat this, we are instituting weekly reported Covid testing for all students and staff on Sundays beginning this weekend. Please watch my three-minute video for the rationale behind this move and be sure to check your email for guidance on how to report the weekly results from Mr Simon and Ms Sandy as the process will be different for elementary and secondary.
Let’s remain vigilant as we push back against this recent wave of cases to keep us face-to-face as much as possible.
Jason
Wellness
By Ruth Spracklan, MYP Wellness Coordinator
Just a reminder to parents to check the wellness site regularly to view the units in which students are participating and the course outline. With wellbeing being one of our Five Pillars at IGBIS, we provide a well defined and broad wellness curriculum that covers topics from relationships and nutrition to First Aid, emotions and more. As part of that programme, we began our units on Sexuality Education on Monday 7th February 2022, units similar to those that are taught in public and other international schools. This curriculum has been in the planning for over a year to ensure that it covers a wide range of issues whilst also maintaining sensitivity to us being a school in Malaysia. The overview of the curriculum can be found on the wellness splash site in the topics section, please take a look at the information included there and if you have any questions please do contact me or Ms van Nooten.
